What would JFK do?
Times were different in JFK's times. The policies of personal destruction and slander weren't practiced by the media or the opposing party (GOP) against a sitting President the way they are today.
If Pres Obama would forcefully stand his ground and quit allowing the GOP, and their crazies in the Tea Party, to derail his every effort then he'd be more respected. He apologizes for things that the GOP makes political issues of instead of going to the mattresses against them.
The Party of NO (GOP) will never do anything that even remotely makes Pres Obama, the Democratic Party and America appear even remotely successful in any way, even to the detriment of the American people, as the $24-billion Gov't Shutdown clearly showed.
It's their stated mission.
Working "with" the Congressional Right to gain a consensus is clearly anon-starter for this President.
Obama really SHOULD be more like JFK in not taking crap from his opponents and be less like Carter in being a weak appeaser to the Right. If he did then he'd be better appreciated and more highly regarded by Americans as a whole.
The GOP is the Party of Obstruction and Destruction. Pres Obama needs to quit letting them control the Narrative and take them to task for their continuing slanders and abuses. They are THE problem not the solution to America's progress after the recent economic collapse and should be treated as such.
What would JFK do? He wouldn't have allowed the GOP to get away with the sh*t that they are.
